Volunteer Information

Thanks to the many volunteers who have signed up to make Engage Norfolk great!  Below is some more detailed information on how you can help.  **Community Liaisons, your work can start ASAP. We need to get as many organization signed up by 2/8 as possible!**  See below on ways to get started.

Hoping to see as many as possible on Saturday, Feb. 4th @ 1pm for our volunteer meeting, which will be held at the Chrysler Museum's Library Reading Room.  (Please check in at the front desk, and they will direct you.  There's a lot going on at the Museum this weekend, so plan on arriving early to find parking and check in.)    If you cannot attend, please email andria.mcclellan@gmail.com to arrange a time to connect soon!

Community Liaisons

Thanks so much for signing up to be a Community Liaison!  You are a critical part of the success of our CivicFAIR!!!!  So what can you do now....?

  1. Brainstorm and identify community groups in your category.  They should be located in the 757 area or serve our community.  (Hello, Google...)  I will also send an invitation to our shared google spreadsheet (via separate email) with a list of all the organizations that have signed up to date, for reference.
  2. Call and/or send an email to the organization.  Hint: It helps to get the right contact before you send a blind email to the organization, so a phone call introducing yourself and the Engage Norfolk concept is probably a good idea (unless you already know the group!).  Here's a sample script for a phone call and sample text for an email:
    • PHONE SCRIPT: Hi!  My name is _____, and I am a volunteer with Engage Norfolk.  We are a new initiative, sponsored by Norfolk Councilwoman Andria McClellan, AltDaily, Volunteer Hampton Roads and the New Journal & Guide, and created to connect Norfolk citizens (and beyond) with organizations which can turn their passions and energy into action in our community.  We are holding the Engage Norfolk event on Sunday, February 12th from 1-5pm at the Academy for Discovery at Lakewood (a Norfolk Public School located off of Tidewater Drive), which will include a large CivicFAIR.  We'd love for [name of organization] to participate in the CivicFAIR with a table!  Registration is *FREE*.  You can learn more and sign up on our website, www.engagenorfolk.com.  Are you interested in participating?  Can I email you a link and more information?
  • EMAIL SCRIPT:
    • Subject Line: Would you like to ENGAGE Norfolk? Sign up for our 2/12 CivicFAIR!
